What is Spinal Decompression Therapy?
Spinal Decompression Therapy is a revolutionary therapy for low back and neck pain that is affordable, gentle, highly effective, FDA cleared, and very safe. Individuals receiving treatment with decompression have been able to avoid an operation and dependence on pain medication.
Vizuri Health Center utilizes a computerized decompression therapy which relieves back pain by reducing the pressure on the discs, spinal joints, and nerves. The ability to target specific discs and vertebral levels using individual patient computerized settings, allows us to treat a wide range of low back acute and chronic pain syndromes.
By "re-educating" the nerve fibers through subtle movement, patients are able to restore health to the sensory nerves; transmitting healthy signals rather than debilitating pain. Patients suffering with chronic pain now have an option; a treatment that has been demonstrated to be successful in the alleviation of pain.
The great thing about decompression therapy is that the majority of the people who suffer from chronic and severe back pain are potential candidates. Many individuals in pain are able to get out of depression from chronic pain with no recovery time, start working again, play with their kids again, and GET BACK INTO LIFE!
The Spinal Decompression Therapy Program at Vizuri
Our program creates individual treatment plans for our patients based upon the nature of their condition. Once we see improvements, relief and correction to a patient’s spine we include exercises for stability in order to have long-term results with this treatment. We also provide nutritional counseling and other individualized therapies to help stabilize the spine. All these services, in addition to decompression, help patients to accomplish good health and wellness. These are some of the reasons why we chose to offer spinal decompression therapy and treat dozens of patients successfully every year.
It is important to note that some people respond to treatment in as little as 3 to 8 visits. More severe conditions often require more time to heal. Rest assured, we advise our patients to keep them informed every step of the way.
Spinal Decompression Therapy is a Step by Step Process
Step 1 – You begin with a consultation about the treatment giving you the opportunity to ask questions about the treatment. At this appointment the doctor or physical therapist will go over any MRI’s, x-rays, CT’s that you bring to the appointment. If you do not have x-rays we may take those at your consultation. The practitioner will determine at this appointment if you are a candidate for Spinal Decompression Therapy.
Step 2 – You undergo a compatibility test. Please wear comfortable loose clothing to this appointment. You will undergo a brief session to see how well the therapy will work for you.
Step 3 – If decompression therapy will benefit your condition, we will set up a treatment plan for you. If it is determined that you are not a candidate for decompression therapy, we will discuss many of the other treatment options available to you at Vizuri.
Each visit follows a simple protocol. We request that you arrive 10 minutes early to prepare for your spinal decompression treatment. During each procedure, you will be fitted with a pelvic harness and a chest vest. While you are comfortably positioned either on your back or stomach, a knee wedge and various supports will be placed to optimize your treatment.
The decompression table slowly and gently separates to relieve you of pressure that pinches the nerves, joints and discs. This allows for vital circulation to be restored to the damaged, painful areas of the back. This stimulates your body’s natural healing process.
3 Phases of the Spinal Decompression Therapy
Phase 1 - Relief
The goal is to relieve you of the pressure in your back that is causing the pain. Most people find this treatment very relaxing and some even fall asleep. As a general rule, most patients experience significant changes in symptoms within the first 3-8 treatments. Relief response varies according to your age, body structure and degree of repair needed.
Phase 2 - Healing
As healing occurs in the lower back, circulation is restored to the damaged disc, and the healing of the disc begins. This healing process occurs simultaneously with symptom relief. After 8-10 treatments, a re-evaluation is performed to assess your progress. Additional treatments including chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, home care protocol and nutrition may play an important role in the healing process.
Phase 3 - Strengthening
Following decompression, you will begin strength restoration therapy with Physical Therapy and/or Rehabilitation to stabilize your spine. Next to the leg muscles, the muscles of the lower back are the largest muscle group in the body. Without the strength and support of these muscles, you are at risk for relapse. By stabilizing your spine with lumbar extension and abdominal exercises, your muscles interact to reduce further stress on your spine. Strengthening your abdominal core stabilizes your now healed spine.
